What Builders & Developers
should do
Guidelines
Use a system from an ITFMA member. All ITFMA members are NSAI Timber
Frame Manufacturer Accredited.
Obtain a certificate from the timber frame manufacturer’ that
the design has been checked for compliance with all relevant technical
requirements
Obtain drawings for on site use, including assembly drawings showing
timber frame connections, weathering and damp proofing details and where
critical erection sequence for use by site personel – LAMINATE THESE!
What a Builder should do
Site supervision is a key factor on any building site. It is paramount
for a successful timber frame site. The timber frame manufacturer will
issue a checklist or ‘site schedule’ for all stages of the
project. Each item should be ticked off on satisfactory completion.
Make sure all the necessary documentation is at hand. Ensure instructions
are clear and that you and your team have the knowledge to complete
the job. Erection instructions should include a clear sequence of events,
relevant to the proper and clear execution of work, including the provision
of temporary bracings and supports.
NEVER alter panels or other structural members without written permission
of the timber frame manufacturer. By doing so you are altering the engineering
of the building.
Check materials and components on a continuous basis. Repair or replace
damaged or unsuitable materials or components
Ensure foundations and rising walls are set out accurately. A base
plan supplied by the manufacturer with appropriate crosschecking dimensions
should be used to verify layout.
